"They just want to take my house and force me to move," said Quintella Jones about BCD. "And I told them I wasn't going to sell my house... But God had other plans."
Ms. Quintella Jones didn't know much about BCD before her first meeting with Rev. William Robinson and Charles Vann other than the organization had built a brand new house a few blocks away from hers on 11th Street. In May 2008, Robinson and Vann knocked on her door, and she flat out said, "I'm not selling."
BCD offered to build Jones the house of her choice. "I struggled hard with that choice," said Jones. "I lived in this house for 32 years, and some of my neighbors kept coming to my house telling me not to sell. They said, 'Those people will never build you a house.' But God showed me this house in a dream before BCD ever came to my door."
After much prayer, Jones agreed to sell her home to make way for BCD's EmPowerment Center. Jones looked through several plans and toured some of the other BCD homes before she found her dream home. "I knew it when I saw it. It was the house God showed me in my dream... the exact house."
Not only did BCD build her a dream home, but they also moved dozens of Jones's prized plants to her new home. "This has been a great experience for me," said Jones. "I know I've been difficult to deal with... I'm not a patient woman, but I'm learning. And they (BCD) are doing such a beautiful job. It looks like they brought a piece of Chenal to 12th Street."
BCD's Housing Program has built 35 brand new homes along the 12th Street Corridor since 2000, and they currently have another three homes under construction. BCD's programs have brought new life to this corridor by building new community infrastructure and providing services to individuals living in this area to help them build better lives.
