EmPowerment Center Ribbon Cutting
The Empowerment Center
April 6, 2013 – BCD celebrated the Ribbon Cutting of its newly constructed EmPowerment Center. Governor Mike Beebe visited and toured the building before the ceremony. In a letter from the Governor, he wrote that he applauds BCD for the dedication to increase diversity, equality, and justice by rebuilding lives and restoring communities. Ken Richardson, Ward 2 City Board of Director, spoke about the building being a part of the vision of the Twelfth Street Corridor.
HUD, ADFA, City of Little Rock, Pulaski County, Duvall Family Charity Endowment, Bank of the Ozark/FHLB, RPPY, East Harding and the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation were all recognized by Darryl Swinton as partner organizations that supported the construction of the building. Sonya Swinton, Publisher of the Internet Celebrity™ TV Magazine and Radio, presented BCD with The Distinguished Business & Community Development Award during the ceremony. This award was in appreciation all of BCD’s hard work in the community.
Donors that attended the Ribbon Cutting took pictures with donor plaques in support of the Bring Paw Paw Home Campaign. During the campaign BCD’s Founder and Executive Director, Rev. Dr. William H. Robinson left his home and committed to stay in the EmPowerment Center until furnished. Thousand dollar donors were given naming rights of a suite in the EmPowerment Center Village Apartments.
