BCD, Inc. Launches Play Safe!
Play Safe! is a community based HIV/STD intervention program for African Americans ages 12-17 years with a CDC endorsed program entitled Focus on Youth at its core. Focus on Youth is designed specifically for African American young people and not only provides education regarding HIV and STDs, it teaches a decision-making model, assertive communication skills and encourages HIV testing while addressing stigma and building team cohesion.
Undoubtedly, abstinence is reinforced in the program but it also encourages proper and consistent condom usage as one of many rational solutions to address apparent challenges facing our youth. In addition, Focus on Youth incorporates a parental component which encourages dialog between young people and their parent(s)/guardian relative to HIV. Through this intervention, we strive to have a positive impact on the community we serve and to encourage healthy behaviors that yield healthy results.
