The Nia Center is a state of the art project designed to train youth and adults in the areas of professional writing, job skills, computer literacy and social activism. The Nia Center seeks to provide class participants with the skills necessary to achieve their personal, educational and career aspirations.
Adult Classes:
BCD uses the national curriculum of "Jobs for Life." The core of the "Jobs for Life" model is an eight-week session of life and job skills class. Program participants are introduced to basic work disciplines and prepare participants in the areas of skills assessment, individual career action plans, resume preparation, interviewing skills and vocational counseling. At the end of the course, participants who have satisfactorily completed course requirements are affirmed through a formal graduation ceremony.
The "Jobs for Life" training program is a unique training program that originated in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1996. The sole purpose is to effectively train chronically unemployed people (who have little work history because of welfare dependency, previous addiction, incarceration, family breakdown or other cause) or underemployed people who are working below their competency or earning potential.
Young Adult Classes (18-25):
This is our new program that is offered for 8 weeks. It is every Saturday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. We offer business writing, basic computer training and job skills training. For more information or to register, please contact Ruth Jones at 501-379-1561.
