BCD, Inc. would like to welcome you to our new online portal. It has been more than two years since we've been able to invest the money and staff time to produce regular news items. The last two years have been a busy time of growth and preparation, and NOW is the time for ACTION!
We've invested in these online tools because it is time for CHANGE... It is time for EMPOWERMENT... and we need YOU! Now more than ever, we need your continued support as we bring change and empowerment to under-served communities in Little Rock.
Please take a moment to become better acquainted with our work and then choose how you would like to support us:
BCD has launched a capital campaign to build a 25,000-square-foot facility equipped with supportive housing, office space, conference and classrooms. This new center will empower and uplift the community of mid-town Little Rock. We invite you to help us to Empower others by becoming a partner.
Marissa McDaniel has known many challenges in her life. From her mother’s addiction to drugs and alcohol to her relocation and adjustment to a strange new life, her life and the lives of her family have been transformed with the support of BCD, Inc. This is her story:
Every two years, the National Harambee is held. This year, BCD coordinated Harambee at Philander Smith College. Our team was especially blessed to have the service of AmeriCorps VISTAs like Sarita K. Robinson. Robinson worked with a team of professionals and more than 100 youth to assist in the planning, execution, and wrapping-up phases of National Harambee.
"I am very grateful for all of the events, conferences, meetings, and trainings that I was afforded the chance to participate in," said Robinson. "Now, I can use what I’ve learned to improve myself and my community."
The word harambee is South African in origin and means "Let's come together." Every other year the national office sponsors the National BMCR Youth Harambee. This event's purpose is to be a celebration of gifts, talents, and willing hearts of United Methodist youth. These events also focus on helping youth and young adults understand BMCR's history, purpose, and focus on equipping and supporting Christian youth.
BCD, Inc. would like to recognize Ms. Robinson for her hard work and dedication, and we would also like to thank The Learning Center, Inc. of North Little Rock, for providing four AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates who were assigned to BCD. These full-time summer positions lasted 8 weeks providing a living allowance plus a AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,000 to pay for college or pay back student loans or an end of service stipend. A special thank you to Tara Rice, Executive Director for sharing these valuable resources.
