A Conversation at the Table
It was a time of fellowship, conversation and a good meal "At the Table" earlier this month. BCD hosted the luncheon to thank its partners whose mission is to provide service to people suffering from addictions.
"We understand the work that we do in the community is vital," said BCD Executive Director Rev. William Robinson, Jr. "We also know the work that you do is humbling and self-sacrificing."
Representatives from the Arkansas Department of Health, Arkansas Department of Human Services, Arkansas Minority Health Commission, Center for Healing Hearts and Spirits, Family Service Agency, Interchange Freedom Initiative, Philander Smith College, UAMS College of Public Health, and Wesley Foundation were each presented with certificates of appreciation.
Summer Youth Program to Begin in June
Summer youth program 2010
BCD is getting ready for another summer of fun and educational activities with its summer youth program. The Summer Flip Program is June 5th through July 30th and activities include: career readiness, HIV/STD and teen pregnancy prevention, self-esteem building, literacy, health living and eating, fitness, and community service. The goal of the program is to encourage, empower, and equip youth to "flip" their mindset on the way they view their community and everyday lives.
To sign up for the Summer Flip Program or to become a volunteer, contact Rhonda Robinson at email@example.com.
Deborah Bell Honored with Living Legend Award
Philander Smith College recently hosted its fourth annual Living Legends Banquet honoring those who positively influence the central Arkansas community. Among the honorees was BCD Community Development Director Deborah Bell. The committee selected Bell to recognize her years of community outreach work.
The Living Legends Banquet is a student-led event and was the keystone event of the campus’s Religious Emphasis Week. During the week’s activities, staff and faculty focus on improving the spiritual well-being of the Little Rock community. Other Living Legend honorees included Dr. Lloyd Hervey, Rev. Vic Nixon, Dr. Larry Ross, Bishop Jonathan Keaton, and Judge Joyce Warren.
BCD Collecting Shoes for Fundraiser
BCD and Theressa Hoover United Methodist Women still need your help with the "Soles 4 Souls" fundraiser. Our goal is to collect 10,000 pairs of shoes, and so far about 3,000 pairs have been donated. The mission project will net $1.50 for each pair of shoes collected, and the money will be used toward programming for the disadvantaged families served.
Please wrap each pair of new or gently-used adult shoes in a plastic bag and contact Nicki Spencer at 501-379-1560 or firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a drop off time.
